Pues sí. Tras mes y medio de trabajo desde España sin poder acceder al país, dos semanas de cuarentena en Kuwait y un mes de entrenamientos sin tener muy claro cuándo comenzaría la competición, ya está aquí la liga. Comienza el campeonato 2020-2021 en la STC Kuwait Premier League.
Disculpemos a todas las partes. No todos los países han sufrido el mismo impacto por esta COVID-19 y, desde luego, no todos al mismo tiempo y en mismo grado de gravedad. La situación concreta de Kuwait le obligó al país a cerrar fronteras poco después de que lo hiciera España, pero su campeonato de fútbol no se pudo reanudar hasta agosto. Concluido este, y la copa, en septiembre, ha habido que replantear los escenarios de cara a la temporada que esta semana se inicia, por fin, y que en cada país ha sufrido una dilación diferente.
Sea como sea, el inicio de liga ya ha llegado. Esta es la primera semana de preparación de competición fuera de una pretemporada atípica, como no podía ser de otra manera, y no solo por la pandemia. La idiosincrasia de este lugar me ha exigido adaptación, atendiendo a detalles que en otras ligas no merecen tiempo y, a la vez, dejando de lado cosas que aquí no tienen importancia; además, al no haber ascensos ni descensos la pasada campaña, como ha pasado en muchas ligas, se nos obliga a jugar la primera parte del campeonato como "filtro" para un fase final a dos vueltas que dictaminará el nuevo campeón; las copas, por medio, y lo que esperemos sea una nueva edición del torneo continental AFC, que también tuvo que suspenderse por la pandemia y en la que estábamos en disposición de clasificarnos para cuartos de final, completarán esta inusual temporada, si nada más lo impide...
Retos nuevos en nuevos escenarios; ilusiones renovadas en una renovada cabeza que deja atrás varios años en la élite de España y de Europa para abrirse paso por Oriente y Asia. Lugares que a mí, particularmente, me apasionan a nivel personal, cultural y espiritual. Cuna de la civilización, origen del hombre moderno, de la que hemos heredado tantas cosas, el Próximo y el Medio Oriente se me hacen particularmente familiares, seguramente por su impacto brutal sobre una economía y una cultura mediterránea con la que yo, particularmente, tan identificado me siento (mar, sol, flora, frutos, gente). Estas culturas, estos pueblos, dejaron en nuestros antepasados cercanos sus vestigios para que ahora seamos lo que somos.
Hoy, afronto esta etapa con el deseo de que esos antepasados me muestren un camino en el fútbol (y en mi vida) que me lleven a un nuevo periodo, a una edad de oro, a una época de reconquistas o, quien sabe, a un renacimiento. El tiempo nos dará una respuesta: que empiece el espectáculo.

Yes, it is. After a month and a half of work from Spain without being able to enter the country, two weeks of quarantine in Kuwait and a month of training without being very clear about when the competition would start, the league is here. The 2020-2021 championship begins in the STC Kuwait Premier League.

The idiosyncrasy of this place has demanded me to adapt, paying attention to details that in other leagues do not deserve time and, at the same time, leaving aside things that are not important here; moreover, since there were no promotions or relegations last season, as has happened in many leagues, we are forced to play the first part of the championship as a qualifying round for a final phase of two rounds that will decide the new champion; the cups, in between, and what we hope will be a new edition of the AFC continental tournament, which also had to be suspended due to the pandemic and in which we were in a position to qualify for the quarterfinals, will complete this unusual season, if nothing else prevents it...
New challenges in new scenarios; renewed illusions in a renewed head that leaves behind several years in the elite of Spain and Europe to make its way through the East and Asia. Places that I am particularly passionate about on a personal, cultural and spiritual level. The cradle of civilization, the origin of modern man, from which we have inherited so much, the Near and Middle East are particularly familiar to me, surely because of their brutal impact on a Mediterranean economy and culture with which I particularly identify (sea, sun, flora, roots, people). These cultures, these peoples, left their vestiges in our close ancestors so that we are now what we are.
Today, I face this stage with the desire that those ancestors show me a path in football (and in my life) that will take me to a new period, to a golden age, to a time of reconquest or, who knows, to a rebirth. Time will give us an answer: let the show begin.
